OUR PASSION. OUR PROMISE.
At Sawmill Hollow we take a holistic, systems based approach to health. The way most of us approach the current state of our health health, would be much akin to strolling down a country lane, much like the one we live on, and being solely focused on the dirt. The answer: we wouldn’t. We have managed to adopt this life denying strategy and have effectively applied to our health and well-being; to that of our communities, families, and ultimately our bodies. The World Health Organization (WHO) defines health as a state of complete physical, mental
and social well being – not just a absence of disease or infirmity.
Nature’s Health
To extrapolate the World Health Organizations definition it becomes apparent that we aren’t just looking to limit the damage done to nature, or to have a sustained nature, but one completely absent of infirmity. We need to foster a thriving nature. When thriving, nature can serve as model, measure, and mentor as seen in the emerging field of biomimicry. What processes can we imitate; be zero waste processes, breakthroughs in natural or alternative health, or simply the joy of being enveloped in a rhythmic system. Natural communities have homeostasis and are interconnected. From the billions of organisms in the soil that provide life and nutrients to life forms above; people, plants, animals, and the atmosphere above. Natures health is our health. It is our shared commons.
Community’s Health
Community health is a field of public health, this discipline concerns itself with the study and betterment of the health characteristics of biological and physical communities. Our populations are composed of different persons, groups, socioeconomic levels, etc. It is learning to work together in an interconnected paradigm that we are able to realize our community potential. This community health, incorporates nutrition, health, wellness, social bonds, third places to form healthy democratic societies.
Community health through adaption of wellness and promotion of health through the means of expanding to our neighbor’s neighbors is vital. Reaching everyone to bring together the systems of health is key. In aspects such as community garden, sharing conversation and food, developing this interconnected benevolence towards health creates powerful bodies and happy well-lived communities. This community health, incorporates nutrition, health, wellness, social bonds, third places to form healthy democratic societies.
Our Bodies’ Health
